The RivalFlow tool makes recommendations that should be the biggest wins when you update a page. We look at traffic on your searches, where you rank, and where your named competitors are. However if you want to target a specific page or keyword, you have that option too.

You can swap one recommended competitor page for another. You can also change the primary keyword.

You will need to do this before clicking "Generate Project." It takes just two steps, but there are other options we'll share down the page.

Click here for an interactive demo, or scroll down to the step-by-step written instructions.

First: Click More Options

Click "More Options" and choose a different competitor.

These details explain your two options. You can do one or both.

Option 1: Change the Keyword

The original keyword is displayed with the recommendation as Primary Keyword. In this case, it is "burpees."

However, you can focus on any keyword that your page already ranks for. That can bring up different competitor pages to choose from since it's pulling from a new SERP.

Select your new keyword and choose the competitor from the SERP that you'd like to compare to.

When you are done making changes, select "Generate Project" to get started.

Option 2: Choose the New Page

You will see a list of new competitor options, filtered to "good opportunities." The good opportunities filter hides any homepages (like site.com vs site.com/page) and very big sites like Amazon and Facebook.

We will highlight your page and the original competitor recommendation (shown in green as "Their Content"). Choose your new competitor from the list by clicking Select.

Once you select the new competitor page, it will update the project recommendation. Be sure to click Generate Project to start working on it.

That's all it takes. You have other options that might change your selection:

Other Options

See All Pages in the SERP

You can remove the "Good Opportunities" filter to see every page listed in the first 10 pages of the SERP.

You will see other pages that rank higher than what we used in your recommendation, but they don't necessarily make good comparisons. For example, the page in the number 2 spot is a YouTube video that doesn't give us longer text to compare against your page.

Some pages are flagged with icons because we recommend against using them for comparisons:

  • Root domains/homepages

  • Big sites

When a homepage (root domain) ranks for your targeted keyword, it usually has more to do with the site's overall strength, backlinks and page titles. We won't see helpful questions from this comparison.

Similarly, very large sites rank due to multiple factors in their favor. Their massive domain strength gives them a significant lift, as does a slew of backlinks. The nature of YouTube means that it will be rare to get text-driven details to inspire new content for your page.

If you know the keyword or page that you want to start with, you can skip these steps. Use the "Pick a Page" tab to type in your choice.
